DBC’s History Lesson: The Enchanted Tiki Room in 1963

For our history lesson for today, let’s go back to 1963!!

50 years ago, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room premiered on June 23rd.
It was the very first Disney attraction to feature Audio-Animatronics. The hosts of the show for 50 years are Jose (voiced by Wally Boag), Fritz (voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft), and the rest of the Tiki Birds.

The attraction contains songs that were written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman.

Disneyland will celebrate the show’s 50th Anniversary starting this Summer.

Robert B. Sherman 1925-2012

As all of you heard last week, we lost Robert B. Sherman of The Sherman Brothers. He and his brother Richard M. Sherman wrote a lot of songs for for both the Disney films. They wrote the song "Chim Chim Chree" from Mary Poppins, which earned them an Academy Award back in 1964.

Robert and Richard also wrote songs for the Disney Park attractions including:

• The Enchanted Tiki Room
• Magic Journeys
• It's A Small World
• The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh
• Adventure Through Inner Space
• Journey Into Imagination

And my all-time favorite,

• Carousel of Progress 

Robert will be enternally missed, but he will never be forgotten.
